Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Granite Headstone

The Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Granite Headstone is an upright memorial featuring a beautifully carved image of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe — the Patroness of Mexico, the Patroness of the Americas, and one of the most revered Marian apparitions in Catholic history. Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin at the hill of Tepeyac near Mexico City on December 9–12, 1531, leaving her miraculous image on his tilma. The image shows her wearing a turquoise mantle covered with stars, standing on a crescent moon, encircled by rays of light, supported by an angel — a theologically rich synthesis of Christian Marian devotion and pre-Columbian Nahuatl cosmology. She is the spiritual mother of all the Americas and deeply cherished across Mexican, Mexican-American, Guatemalan, Salvadoran, Puerto Rican, and all Latino Catholic communities.

This classic Catholic upright headstone has a rounded-top design — the most traditional Catholic cemetery silhouette — with the sculpted Guadalupe image centrally positioned. The polished inscription area provides generous space for names, dates, a portrait medallion, and personal epitaphs in Spanish, English, or a bilingual combination. Traditional inscriptions include "Que yo no estoy aquí, que soy tu madre?" (Am I not here, I who am your mother?), "Descanse en paz en los brazos de la Virgen" (Rest in peace in the arms of the Virgin), "Con la Guadalupana siempre" (With Our Lady of Guadalupe always), and the Guadalupan prayer "Non fecit taliter omni nationi" (He has not done thus for every nation — Psalm 147).

The December 12 feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe is the most widely attended Catholic celebration in the Western Hemisphere. Families honouring a loved one on or near this date may wish to include the date of the apparition in the memorial's inscription.
