Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Granite Headstone

The Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Granite Headstone is a devotional granite memorial placing Christ's Sacred Heart — the universal emblem of his love for humanity — at the center of a lasting Catholic tribute. The Sacred Heart iconography, with its crown of thorns, cross, radiating flames, and the wound of the lance, carries centuries of Catholic theological meaning: it represents God's infinite mercy, the sacrificial love revealed at Calvary, and the invitation to return love for love through prayer and devotion. This headstone is a fitting tribute for anyone who practiced the Nine First Fridays devotion, participated in a Sacred Heart League or Holy Name Society, or whose family home was consecrated to the Sacred Heart.

Standard dimensions are approximately 24 to 30 inches wide by 36 to 48 inches tall by 4 to 6 inches thick, set on a granite base of 26 to 32 by 10 by 6 inches — compliant with most Catholic diocesan monument regulations. The Sacred Heart is carved in deeply detailed relief on the polished granite face. The surrounding surface provides ample space for the full name, birth and death dates, and a personal Catholic inscription.

Traditional inscriptions for this headstone range from the brief "RIP" and "IHS" (the Christogram) to full liturgical prayers: "Lord, into Your hands I commend my spirit" (Luke 23:46), the Eternal Rest prayer ("Eternal rest grant unto him/her, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon them"), or the Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart. Latin adds solemnity for families in the extraordinary form (Traditional Latin Mass) tradition: "Cor Jesu Sacratissimum, miserere nobis" or "Requiescat in Pace" in full (rather than abbreviated RIP). For Filipino Catholic families — among the most devoted Sacred Heart communities in the United States — Filipino-language inscriptions such as "Pahintulutan siya ng Diyos na makapiling Niya" (May God allow him/her to be with Him) are also engraved on our headstones.
